  • AWP Panel "The Doctor is In: Applications of Narrative Medicine"

    We are doctors and medical editors who write poetry and prose, and believe in the power of creative writing to promote healing. We teach medical and health humanities classes across the country in English and ethics departments and in medical schools, hospitals, and treatment centers to people of all ages. Panelists will discuss best practices for teaching creative writing with a medical focus to promote empathy and healing for students, patients, doctors, and writers of all levels and genres.

  • "Poetry and Therapy: More Alike Than You Think" Panel

    With overlapping concerns of creating meaning from what may be meaningless, order out of what may be disordered, and a primary focus on words and language as the vehicle, poetry and therapy are often more alike than you think.
